Russian Christmas Carols and Songs include the Ukrainian Carols. Culture of these two countries penetrated each other for hundreds of years, so I decided to include them here together. Christmas in Russia – according to the Julian calendar, according to which the Russian Orthodox Church lives – is celebrated in the week after the New Year. It is a very joyous holiday. Many Russians traditionally goes to the church. Nativity Liturgy usually begins after midnight from 6 to 7 January. Nearly two weeks later than in Catholic Church. Russian children receive gifts, mostly toys and sweets, brings them the equivalent of our Santa Claus – Grandfather Frost, accompanied by her granddaughter Snowflakes
Singing carols in Russia is not so popular, but Russian christmas songs are sung mainly in churches. This tradition almost does not work in homes. Russian carols are often a combination of Russian and Ukrainian music heritage.
